Customizing Your Note Style in Wavo Health

Control how Wavo drafts your clinical notes by customizing verbosity, formatting, and content preferences—so every note matches your documentation style.

Updated over a month ago

Wavo’s Style Settings let you define how the AI scribe generates your clinical notes. You can choose:

  • How detailed notes should be

  • How they’re formatted

  • What types of content are included

  • Which AI model is used

You can also add custom instructions and use quick presets to get started faster.

All changes auto-save, and a live preview shows how your settings affect note formatting in real time.

How to Access Style Settings

  2. Click Style Settings to open the configuration page.

Quick Presets

If you want a fast setup, Wavo offers presets that adjust multiple settings at once:

Preset

Description

Clinical Standard

Medium detail, paragraph format, includes patient quotes. A balanced default for most clinicians.

Research Detailed

High detail, bullet-point format, uses abbreviations. Ideal for complex cases or research-focused documentation.

Quick Notes

Concise detail, mixed format, uses abbreviations. Great for brief encounters or high-volume workflows.

Click a preset to apply it instantly. You can customize individual settings afterward.

Document Format Settings

Verbosity Level

Controls how much detail Wavo includes in your notes:

  • Concise – Essential information only

  • Medium – Balanced detail (default)

  • Detailed – Comprehensive documentation for complex cases

Style Format

Controls the structure of your notes:

  • Paragraph – Narrative-style text

  • Bullet Points – Structured, scannable lists

  • Mixed – Paragraphs for main ideas, bullets for supporting details

Content Preferences

These toggles control specific content choices:

Setting

When on

When off

Use Quotations

Includes direct patient quotes (e.g., “I’ve been feeling dizzy for two days”).

Patient statements are paraphrased.

Use Abbreviations

Uses standard medical abbreviations (e.g., HPI, CC, GI).

Terms are written in full.

Ensure Clarity

Adds structural elements and section headers for readability.

Notes follow your format without extra structure.

AI Engine (Note Model Preference)

Choose which AI engine generates your notes:

Option

Best for

Core

Speed and clarity in most encounters. Optimized for fast turnaround with clear, reliable output. Ideal for routine visits and high-volume workflows.

Advanced

More thorough detail and nuance. Best for complex consultations, detailed style settings, richer formatting, and when you rely heavily on custom instructions. May take slightly longer but produces more refined drafts.

Summary: Use Core when you want notes as fast as possible. Use Advanced when you want maximum depth, consistency with custom instructions, or more polished formatting.

Custom Instructions

Use the Additional Instructions field to define specific, recurring rules for your notes.

Examples:

  • “Always include a differential diagnosis section.”

  • “Use ICD-10 codes in the assessment.”

  • “Format medication lists with dosage and frequency.”

These instructions are applied alongside your other style settings every time a note is generated. They work best with the Advanced engine when you have many or detailed rules.

Live Preview

The right side of the Style Settings page shows a live preview that updates instantly as you change settings.

Preview tools include:

  • Zoom in / out

  • Copy to clipboard

  • Download as a text file

  • Toggle between Formatted and Raw Text views

This lets you fine-tune your preferences before starting an encounter.

AI Learning Memories

Wavo can automatically learn your preferences based on how you edit AI-generated notes.

How It Works

  1. Edit notes as usual – Adjust formatting, remove sections, or add content after note generation.

  2. Reach the learning threshold – After 5 or more edits, AI Learning activates.

  3. Wavo detects patterns, such as:

    • Prefers bullet points in Assessment

    • Removes Review of Systems

    • Includes patient quotes in HPI

    • Uses medical abbreviations

  4. Preferences are applied automatically – Learned patterns are used for future notes created with the same template. Learned preferences override global style settings for that specific template.

Managing AI Learning Memories

Scroll to the AI Learning Memories section in Style Settings to manage learned behavior:

View learned patterns

Each template displays a card showing detected preferences.

Edit a memory

Click the pencil icon to fine-tune learned behavior (advanced users).

Delete a memory

Click the trash icon to remove a learned preference permanently. This action cannot be undone.

Troubleshooting & Choosing the Right Settings

“I want my notes faster.”

  • Switch to Core in AI Engine.

  • Use the Quick Notes preset, or set Verbosity to Concise and turn on Use Abbreviations.

  • These choices prioritize speed over maximum detail.

“I want more detail or better quality.”

  • Switch to Advanced in AI Engine.

  • Use Verbosity: Detailed and the Research Detailed preset if you need comprehensive documentation.

  • Add Custom Instructions for recurring requirements; Advanced applies them more consistently.

“My notes don’t follow my custom instructions.”

  • Use the Advanced engine—it handles custom instructions and formatting rules more thoroughly.

  • Check that your instructions are in the Additional Instructions field and that you’ve saved (auto-save should apply).

  • If you use templates, check AI Learning Memories; learned preferences override global style for that template. Edit or delete a memory if it conflicts with your instructions.

“Notes are too long / too short.”

  • Adjust Verbosity (Concise / Medium / Detailed).

  • Use a preset as a starting point, then tweak verbosity and format to match your preference.

“Formatting doesn’t match what I want.”

  • Try Style Format: Paragraph, Bullet Points, or Mixed.

  • Use the Live Preview to see changes before your next encounter.

  • For very specific rules, add them in Custom Instructions and use the Advanced engine.

Tips for Best Results

  • Start with a preset – The Clinical Standard preset is a great baseline.

  • Use the live preview – Confirm formatting before your next encounter.

  • Combine with templates – Templates define structure; Style Settings control how content appears.

  • Use custom instructions for consistency – Avoid repeating the same edits across notes.

  • Let AI Learning work for you – The more you edit, the better Wavo adapts to your style.

  • Review learned memories occasionally – Make sure they still reflect your current preferences.
